George L. Van Dyke 81, of Rickard Hill Road Schoharie, NY died Thursday September 6th at the Bassett Medical Center.
George was born October 8, 1936 in Cobleskill, a son of Otis and Elsie (Crapser) Van Dyke. He attended Schoharie School and later, worked for the former Penn Dixie Cement Plant, General Electric, and most recently Scotia Sand & Gravel, retiring in 2012. Mr. Van Dyke was a volunteer with Scho-Wright Ambulance Squad for many years and was recognized by the NYS Legislature for his work. He was also a member of the Schoharie County Pistol League and enjoyed hunting, fishing, feeding the wild birds and squirrels, and tending his garden.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” (Pierce) Van Dyke whom he was married to for over 60 years, 2 sons; Richard (Kimberly) Van Dyke of Springfield Center and Timothy (Joanna) Van Dyke of Schoharie, 5 grandchildren; Sarah, Taran, Danielle, Nash and Nathan, 5 great-grandchildren; Victoria, Alex, Nina, Willow and Leo along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers; Robert and Walter “Pete” VanDyke and his two canine companions Lucky and Bart
Calling hours will be held from 10AM to 12 Noon on Tuesday September 11th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street Schoharie followed by a graveside service at the Lutheran Cemetery in Schoharie.
